Chapter 8: The History of the Most Forbidden Word

A word cannot have intention. An object cannot determine its action. This chapter is on the history of the word with the most wizardry and spellcasting around it. My history as a comedian has given me a behind the current view of this word that I’ve thought about and contemplated for years and years.

The history of the photo in the thumbnail of the dog is exactly what you’d expect. The black guy says he wasn’t there for a protest and the cop was trying to help him and he didn’t like the movement: he called them “crooked people.”

In a 1996 oral history interview, when asked what benefits his family received from the civil rights movement, Gadsden answered “None.”
